It’s the kind of feeling that, I imagine, makes everything else fade for a moment.

Settling in, there’s time for a quiet pause. They wander through the gardens and find themselves looking down at where their lakeside wedding ceremony will be held. They glance out at Taal Lake, breathe in the view and start to imagine ‘tomorrow’. It’s that gentle stillness, like a collective inhalation before the whirlwind begins. Everyone knows a big day is coming.

The Night Before

By the evening, the place hums from the warmth of shared memories. The day has been spent lounging by the pool while swapping stories and laughter. At Ilulli, everyone gathers for a relaxed welcome dinner — savouring Nordic-inspired European dishes, clinking glasses, and soaking in the joy of being together. Couples slip away separately into quiet corners to put pen to paper and finish their vows, pausing to think about how far they’ve come, the paths that led them here, and the life they’re about to start.

The Wedding Day

And then morning arrives. It’s the big day. There’s a shift in the air and it feels electric yet intimate. Behind the scenes, our team is in full swing: our service and event team are everywhere at once, the chefs buzzing and preparations are in full-swing, canapés for the reception being prepped alongside breakfast, the fragrance of freshly baked bread mingling with coffee and blooms. Suppliers start to trickle in, setting up the garden, arranging flowers, lights, and linens, each detail transforming our space into the couple’s unique (outdoor garden wedding or intimate wedding under the villa’s brick arches) vision. Often, these visions are born from long-held dreams — the bride imagining her wedding day as a child, sketching bouquets in notebooks, picturing her first dance in a garden, or simply daydreaming about the colours and moments she’s always hoped for. Watching those childhood dreams take shape in real life is quietly magical, a reminder of how personal and meaningful each celebration really is.

The excitement is contagious. It threads through the staff, weaving into our own anticipation. By now, we’re invested — rooting for the couple, feeling their joy, sharing in their nerves and laughter. It’s not unusual to find tears from us standing on the sidelines when a father sees his daughter, or when the couple exchanges that glance that says, “This is it.” As we witness these moments, so tender, so raw, there’s an intimacy in being the fly on the wall, soaking it all in, knowing we are a part of something profoundly human and beautiful.
